Overview of LIU Risk Engineering
Risk management is fundamental to LIU's underwriting philosophy and to our long-term relationships with clients.
By gaining an in-depth understanding of the technical aspects of clients' businesses we can suggest measures and processes that enhance overall risk control. To achieve this, we draw on the skills of our risk engineers located in the region. In turn, they draw on the expertise of their LIU counterparts around the world. This enables them to offer global best practice loss prevention to our clients.
All our engineers has a strong background in both industry and insurance. That creates insurance solutions tailored to a client's needs rather than to abstract technical standards.
The Risk Management Process
The risk management process begins with an evaluation of the information provided during the quoting stage and extensive research into similar industries and operations. When combined with the client’s experience this information helps us to evaluate the risk and highlight any potential exposures.
The risk may also be physically evaluated to understand specific physical attributes, the nature of the operation and the risk exposures present.
The risk management role also includes post loss investigation and evaluation to ensure that deficiencies in existing systems are understood and controlled to prevent recurrence. This provides valuable information on how such a loss can be prevented at similar businesses. This information forms part of our training process and is shared with our business partners.
The risk manager ensures that potential clients and brokers are aware of both the risks they face and the mitigation strategies available. They may address these issues via risk recommendations, training programs, presentations or management seminars.
LIU’s Risk Management function also provides advice to our Underwriting team so that all parties have a better understanding of both the risk exposures and controls in place. This ensures an active and informed approach to understanding and selecting the risk.
